This is an intermediate course for experienced photographers who wish to learn more about photographing people in the studio. Formal and informal approaches will be discussed and practised whilst introducing students to the type of equipment, which can be used in various situations. An on-going critique with exercises will guide participants in order to begin to define their own approach to the portrait. This workshop will finish off in the afternoon with a professional model for images which you can add to your portfolio.. You will learn about: Light Ratios, Studio/Portable Flash, Reflectors, Lighting-Broad/Short etc., High-Key/Low-key Lighting, Posing/Composing, Avant Garde, Studio Work, Location Work and Portfolios.

Prerequisites

A fundamental understanding of photography (i.e. “Crash Course Camera”, “Flash Photography” and “Crash Course Studio”) and some camera experience would be a decided advantage.

Materials

Closed toed shoes are required for the studio. Please bring a lunch, 35mm camera or DSLR, tripod, pen, notebook, lots of film or memory cards and lots of ideas. A few props such as portable objects or material may also be helpful. Extra film may be purchased from The CCP if required. If you are shooting digital, then have a lot of available memory cards spare batteries.
