Working alongside an established wedding photographer is a time-tested pathway to both the wedding industry and hone your collaboration skills.

In this short workshop we’ll be covering the foundation of what it takes to be the kind of second shooter that will entice other photographers to team up with you.

A second shooter allows the primary photographer to perform at their highest possible level. When the primary shooter knows they have a reliable second shooter covering additional details on the day for the wedding, they can do what they do best: which is concentrate on creating beautiful art from the moments of the day. The second shooter helps keep the main shooter on track, with their assistance and support.

A second shooter brings a different perspective. The second photographer cannot physically stand in the same place as the lead shooter, so you are always going to get two different perspectives. More often, second shooters endeavour to bring different artistic ideas and interpretations, and to capture moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.

A second shooter allows the main shooter to capture more special moments.  Any given wedding day is brimming with special moments and memories.  A second skilled photographer allows the main shooter to capture more of those moments.

About Dani Chidlow

Dani Chidlow
Dani is an Adelaide born photographer who
has lived and worked between Melbourne and
Adelaide, but now resides in her home city.
Dani graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Commercial Photography from RMIT in 2011.
In the years since, she has learned through
toying and experimentation that she finds
most joy in the collaborative process of
teaming up and making images together with
other creatives.
Dani has worked as an assistant and secondary
shooter for several beautiful photographers
around Australia (and one from the USA!) since
2013. Collaborating is what Dani loves to do,
and she does it so often now that she is
