More information at the Art Gallery of South Australia
Entries close 12 December

The Art Gallery of South Australia, in partnership with the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation, have launched the country’s richest prize for young contemporary artists.

Held every two years, the Ramsay Art Prize is an acquisitive prize with $100,000 awarded to the winning artist with their work entering the Gallery’s collection. The Prize is open to artists under 40 working in any medium and is supported in perpetuity by the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation.

The Ramsay Art Prize celebrates the important legacy of James and Diana Ramsay in supporting the art of our time and demonstrates the Art Gallery’s commitment to contemporary artists.

At a special event held in the Gallery’s Elder Wing of Australian Art, the Prize was revealed by Premier of South Australia, The Hon Jay Weatherill MP.

‘Since 1990 the Art Gallery of South Australia has been supporting contemporary art through the Adelaide Biennial. The Ramsay Art Prize continues and builds upon this commitment and is further affirmation of the importance of nurturing Australia’s cultural landscape,’ Mr Weatherill said.

Entries for the 2017 Ramsay Art Prize will open Monday 12 September 2016. Finalists will be selected by an international judging panel and their work exhibited in a major exhibition at the Art Gallery from 27 May – 27 August 2017. The winner will be judged from this exhibition and announced at the official opening.
