This week's inspiration is the multi-skilled Micky Hoogendijk (pronounced ɦoːɣəndɛik). Hoogendijk was raised in the art scene in the Netherlands, her father a photographer and painter Roelof Frankot. Her career has taken many paths, most notably acting and modelling.

On this day in 2011, one of the most popular video games of all time Minecraft was released. Largely celebrated as the biggest independent video game ever published, Minecraft is instantly recognisable for its blocky graphics and creative gameplay. Parents everywhere have been hailing it as both a blessing and a curse when it comes to screen time!

Upon looking through our calendar today, we discovered that it was the birthday of Dorothea Lange. Most famous for her photograph Migrant Mother, Dorothea was a photojournalist commissioned by government organisations often shooting for political reasons. She documented the effects of the depression era on America and gave a human face to the struggle.

Today’s inspiration comes from two hugely influential photographers, Irving Penn and Bill Henson, They both share today as a birthday - so what better way to celebrate than to share their work with the CCP community.

On this day in 1973 Canadian Inuit artist, historian and photographer passed away. Pitseolak’s work was significant, as he was an Inuit man photographing his own culture through his own eyes as opposed to outsiders looking in.

It’s Mexican Independence Day and when we think of Mexico, we think of Cecy Young. Cecy was raised in Mexico, then moved to Paris after taking the world by storm with beautiful clean lines and attention to the silhouette of her models. We have big love for some of her Dior and Elle photo sets.

Keeping with the Friday the 13th theme of this week's inspiration, we thought we might share with you some of the creepy and downright strangely beautiful images created by Arthur Tress. The above photograph many may be familiar with from Camera Portfolio 1's Tableau class, however we thought we might share some of our favourite creep-tacular images he has shot over time.

It's September 9th and what does that mean? We don't know. But the number 9 got us thinking about the most common thing we hear about in photographic composition, the rule of thirds.

The week has been full of excitement as our CCP staff and students have their images judged in the South Australian Professional Photography Awards.

I have seen a lot of exhibitions in my time and no doubt a lot are excellent, most are very good at least and of course there are the “mehs” but doubtless all of them have added to my collective experience with art. I’d like to write a little about something excellent that is currently showing at the Light Gallery at the CCP and place my idea of excellent into perspective after this qualification.
