Weekly Inspiration - Jan Groover

Jan Groover (April 24, 1943 – January 1, 2012) began her career as a painter but quickly moved into photography. Groover caused a sensation in 1978 after exhibiting a series of dramatic still-life photographs of objects in found in her kitchen sink.

These images resonate with us as we struggle to find inspiration within in the limitation of our homes during COVID-19 isolation and discover new ways of photographic expression. One of the sentiments that CCP Director Gavin Blake often expresses rings true at this time - that artistically, "the poverty of your surroundings lay in the poverty of your vision". It's a perfect time now to think "inside the box", finding value and beauty in every day objects.
